The Online Petition is used to request exceptions to standing policies, requirements or rules of the Bourns College of Engineering or the University of California, Riverside. If you are a BCOE student seeking to petition for an exception, you must first meet with your assigned BCOE Academic Advisor for consultation. The purpose of this step is to assess if a petition is necessary versus an alternative means to address your concern. If the petition for an exception is pursued, your assigned Academic Advisor will offer consultation to identify: documentable extenuating circumstances, important details that should be included in the petition, and chart out next steps. Petitions that lack documentable extenuating circumstances and full details may be denied on that basis alone.
Thoughtful consideration will be given to all petitions. Please allow 5 business days to review and process your petition. After 5 business days, if you do not receive an update on your petition, please follow up with your Academic Advisor. Check your BCOE Academic Advisor’s availability to arrange time for consultation.
Reminder: if you are requesting an enrollment adjustment such as changing grading basis, adding, dropping or withdrawing from a course during the allowed deadlines you would use the form available at myforms.ucr.edu.
Important Notes: (1) Receiving Academic Advisor consultation is required. The Academic Advisor’s role is not to serve as a gatekeeper but to help you explain and document extenuating circumstances, account for important details, and chart out next steps. (2) Ability to submit a petition does not guarantee approval. Assume the petition will be denied without documentation confirming extenuating circumstances or academic merit supporting approval or an alternative pathway to satisfying the college or university policy.
